A Blogging Community

Blogging in today's day and age has become a social norm as almost everyone has at least posted up one blog post in their blog. As statistics show that 15% of bloggers spend at least 10 hours each week blogging in their blog (Bradley, P. 2010). Another interesting fact shows that one third of bloggers are male (Bradley, P. 2010). Blogging nowadays is not only for personal views and voicing out opinions but also as a source of income. After John Barger started the term of web blog into society, it has caught on to people like wild fire and hundreds of thousands of people have started to blog ever since 1997 where John Barger started off the term which we now know as Blogs.

In terms of the blogging to the community, it is a way of reaching out to others who have the same interests as you do and redefining ways of communication and reading. Reading used to come from newspapers, web sites, magazines and books. Nowadays, they come from blogs. Blogs that have a special personal touch are considered more interesting. Words or stories that can't be expressed through speaking are always put into writing. It is especially beneficial to writers as they can now create their own stories without having to publish their own books. That way, the blogging community as well as internet users are able to connect by means of blogging and reading others blogs. This brings in the term "Global Village" by Marshall McLuhan (McLuhan M, 1964). A global village is that we as internet users are all connected to one another as though we are in a small village.

A community is formed when bloggers or internet users who do not have to know each other are commenting and chatting in the same blog. In that way, it creates a community of its own.
